The Death Guard list was similar to mine in many ways with a couple Demon Princes and Mortarion plus tanks, while my list was jetbike custodes and tanks, i than got the +1 for less drops and went first, though i couldnt take advantage despite my entire force shooting and only managed to get mortarion down to 3 HP, didnt look good. Fortunetly for me on Dans turn his shooting was also poor and/or he ran some of his vehicles forwards to claim objectives though he did get first blood.
On my second turn i killed Mortarion with firepower and managed to get 3 charges off with my shield captains, 2 onto Demon Princes, and for my troubles i managed to do 0 wounds on his warlord, and when he intercepted my second captain with command points he killed him before i got to strike. My third captain and the armoury relic holder killed a plague tank. From the bottom of turn 2 to the top of turn 5 we basically exchanged models from firing but eventually i broke through on the top of 5 and by the end of it had 5 tanks of various effectiveness left on the table to face his final dreadnaught and 10 cultists. We played it out till the bottom of 6 and were actually tied on Victory points 12-12, we each held 1 objective for 4 more points, but i won when we tallyed up the killpoints by 4.
Was a real fun game and it seemed that the amount of armour i had on the table made it hard to just prioritze the killing of pask or my plasma tank commander when the hellhounds are right in your face, blocking lanes of movement and throwing around flamers and mortal wounds when they finally die. Didnt like what the custodes brought today vs the princes, when i put them in the list to fight enemies at that level in melee. Also, third game in a row to finish well under the time limit, basically just finally memorized my key stats.
