Most of my lists are very similar, and for this game i wanted to mix it up slightly. I brought no warp spiders and "only" 3 units of bikes (as opposed to 6 units), so i had a few different things this game while still bringing a quality force. Took a fire prism, Autarch, 2 units of dark reapers and 1 full ten man unit of dire avengers in a wave serpent and the crimson death formation (all the previous units i rarely if ever take. Rounded out my force with my staples, a wraithknight, warp hunter, 2 hornets and a squad of swooping hawks, farseer Ryan.
The Lion rocked a Demon flying circus triad, couple units of marines in rhinos, couple spawn, autocannon havoc squad, nurgle bikes with a nurgle bike lord and 2 small termicide units. Im not sure all the spells that were rolled, but the ones cast all game included invisibility, incursion and psychic shrieks. By games end the incursions proved effective and the invisilibilty was very good for him, shriek only vaped a squad of in the open despite being cast several times.
I picked sides, but he deployed and went first on the hammer and anvil deployment. I felt he deployed to cautiously initially as he wanted to makesure he wasnt screwed and caught on the ground if i happened to sieze, but when i inevitably didnt sieze, he was to far away to really do nay damage at all and i ended up taking first blood despite going second when i barraged his spawn out of existance, also i chipped in some damage on his khorne demon prince which was forced to fly off the table turn 2 to survive.
The rest of the game was basically him flying around casting spells that had limited damaging effect to my army (casting invis on things i would just avoid them, or summoning units that i was able to deal with in time, and between cursed earths and shrouded i simply avoided his nurgle and tzeench DP which were effectively immune to weapons fire. I did kill his khorn and slaanesh DP between massed shooting and my crimson hunter formation, but he wiped my planes out with key vector strikes. My other shooting was able to kill off his marines and bikes eventually. In the end the game went 6 turns and only on the 6th turn was i able to secure all three objectives (along with first blood and linebreaker) to take him down, had we played one more turn he was well positioned to atleast contest 2 objectives with his nurgle demon prince poised to attack and likely kill my wraithknight on one objective, while his warlord tzeench prince was well positioned to charge my 4 bikes and farseer ryan guarding another.Fun game vs an army style im not good vs (flyers)and magic, I look forward to the next battle.
Just a last thing to add, around turn 5 I failed a critical charge against the wraith knight because I didn't move close enough and my Chaos Lord charged his fire prism and despite using a s10 power fist he only managed a weapon destroyed. If those units had preformed a bit better I think I could have gotten at least a tie instead.
