So largely in part to Tyler's generosity at Summer Slaughter and the kind votes I received for best painted army, I'm in the unique position to plan out an army. In the past I've kinda just bought stuff on a whim in order to accomplish a particular goal or fill in a gap in my Dark Eldar or World Eater armies. Oh, and if a model looked cool it'd become an acquisition. The result over many many years is pleasing to me but since I have two playable armies this new project will be a bit more focused.
Here's the plan: I'm gonna create a traitor guard army (with CSM auxillary). I have a story kind of planned out and I've been doing a bit of research into force organization (real life and in the 40K world). The idea is that it's going to be a combined arms detachment under the command of renegade imperial commander who has sworn allegiance to the World Eaters (for some unfathomable reason).
From a rule set perspective I'll be able to use pure CSM and Daemons if necessary but I plan on using the very super cool Forge World Renegade and Heretics list whenever I can. There's some really cool options (and believe me, they are NOT overpowered. Militia - IG equivalent have a BS of 5+ and a randomly generated leadership with a max of 8 most of the time). If you're a fan of the Gaunt's Ghost books then think Blood Pact or Sons of Sekt.
Once I've settled on the name of this glorious new project I'm going to be building an army profile and a narrative campaign around it. This'll serve two purposes. The first being that I'll be able to share my thought process along the way but the second is for me: if I'm trying to do something on the site from the very beginning it'll help me identify weak points and things that are missing. Those'll be the things I work on unless something else pops. I'll be crafting fluff, uploading images, and anything else that seems like a good idea. More to come, my friends!
I have to say that the announcement of Necromunda's imminent release has me thinking of possibilities for the models therein. I have the sneaking suspicion that they'll make superb traitors for my army.
