New to the hobby, looking for advice!

After a solid year of talking myself out of it, I finally dived down the rabbit hole. I decided to buy the Dark Imperium box set and I am incredibly excited to get started. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for getting started; whether it be different places to buy paint, techniques, things you wish you knew starting out, anything would be most appreciated! Any tips and tricks on where to save some cash would really go a long way.

Thanks for your time!

i think one of the biggest keys to playing warhammer from ground zero is to makesure you really need something for your army, unless your very well off, its not advisable to just buy random stuff do to cost. Try to buy stuff that your going to use essentially all the time (at first atleast). Im a crappy painter so cant help you there, but the key to painting and not getting demoralized (for me), is to not let the painting pile get to large, a bit at a time, keep it manageable.

And since you bought the box set i assume your going to play ultramarines or deathguard, try to play something your interested in the lore of, will keep the game fresher.

I'm a huge Death Guard fan, I love their backstory and colour scheme so I decided to go for them. I figured the box set would be a good call because I know a lot of people who are interested in the game but are affraid to check it out mostly do to the cost. This way when I'm comfortable enough with the rules I can help them play through it and give it a try.

Welcome to the hobby. I am pretty new too. Best advice I can regurgitate would be.... wet pallet:

Also, that guys youtube channel is awesome. From his tips to his 2 hour long live chats. Awesome to sit and paint to.

This is great, thanks Robb! I've pretty much been gaining as much knowledge through tabletop tactics, Winters SEO and Warhammer painting tutorials.

Although the cost of the hobby is pretty high in the beginning, as time goes on and your collection grows you will be spending less if at all when you feel happy with what you have. Another good source to learn the game I feel like is the Miniwargaming videos on Youtube. They are currently reviewing all the new faction rules and playing games to demonstrate them
