From what I remember the Las cannon was better suited for stay at home long range fire. If your going Sargent with power fist I can only assume your going to get up close and personal.Multimelta might be the better option.

I agree. But consider this: Combat squads. If the squad is a full ten man squad (which it will be 'cause I try to field fluffy lists) I can split the unit into two five man crews: One with the sergeant and the melta gun and a second with the las cannon/multi-melta. How's that change your position?

Yup Totaly forgot you can split squads. I think I still like the Multimelta. I think I would want to keep the 10 together just in case I got jumped wile I was walking around blowing holes in stuff

personally, i would go with the lascannon. Seeing as both weapons are heavy, they need to remain stationary to fire at full BS, and the lascannon has far better range. My recommendation would be to combat squad the lot, stick half in a razorback/rhino or pod to get up nice and personal, while the other half camps a back field objective and fires laser beams down field!

Ugh. One and one. Anyone else care to weigh in?

Im just not a fan of lascannons in this edition. I find if im not D weaponing something down, im better off just trying to strip off hull points.

Take ur average lascannon, hitting on 3s, than say its a av13 target, ur glancing on a 4, pen on a 5+. Than the pen effect and your simply hoping for a 6 at that point. So 66 percent to hit, 50 percent to affect the target than 16 percent to explode it. Forgive my at work on the phone map but thats what, like a 7 percent chance a single lascannon will outright blow a heavy target up.

Or grav frankly, not sure how DA can get grav on things other than bikes. If u can get them on foot its a no brainer. Grav is the best gun in the game, and why u never see plasma or even much melta in most marine tournament lists.

Yeah, DA Tac Squads have full access to grav. Heavy and special. I have one in my Dev squad. You're right, of course, grav is stupid good. I'm definitely going to have a squad with em. I already modelled the meltagun. Maybe I should go for grav.

If your devs can get grav then have a squad with 4 of them in a drop pod and delete shit. If it were me, I'd run my tac squads with pure bolter, maybe a melta for some form of AV threat. Not only does grav put serious hurt on vehicles but it is the bane of any MC or GMC. Wraithknights, TMCs, Stormsurges, all will die to a single round of a grav kitted dev squad.

The codex astartes dictates a special and heavy weapon deployed in full strength squads. Sheesh. *snicker.

Fluff > math

Well, if you feel you must take something, than take the grav cannon. Will prove to be all around more useful and you aren't forced to snap fire if you move, unlike your other heavy weapon choices.
